We Bought a Zoo is a great movie. I went with my Mother and Husband when I really wanted to see The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but because compromise is my middle name these days I went to the Zoo movie. I knew Cameron Crowe had something to do with it, so I was willing. It really surprised me how much I liked it and how much I needed to see it. It makes a sometimes-spiritual-mystic like me feel stronger about the invisible stuff I need to know is still around me. So great.

So, I think it’s been about 20 years since I was brave enought to go for bangs. I have curly hair, and bangs generally dont work out well for me - that’s just been my experience, but – I am still hopeful for the future. What’s the definition of insanity again?

Before & After 3 – Backyard and Deck

Click to view slideshow.We had our work cut out for us here. All kinds of big projects to do, but they are mostly done, and in time to enjoy the summer. We had a 3-season porch with rotting wood and peeling paint attached to a really large deck that looked like it was made of driftwood. After scraping and scrapping some of the 3-season porch and several gallons of stain, things are looking up.

Before & After 2 – Dining Room

Click to view slideshow.So when we moved in the dining room was a bright royal blue that must have been picked out long ago. It was the very first thing we changed! I picked out a very light and neutral puddy color and repainted the trim with a clean white as well. We’ve opted for the light filtering, custom cut blinds instead of drapes for now.

Potters Clay

I am seriously thinking about experimenting with Martha Stewart’s specialty paints. They look super cool – especially the potters clay, which is kind of thick and malleable. I haven’t ruled out doing big vertical stripes of the reflective paint in the dining room either.

Before & After, Part 1 – The Living Room

Click to view slideshow.Here is the living room – it was a very traditional sitting room that needed a lot of cosemetic updates. We pulled down the mammoth curtain hardware first and painted this gray/green color called “stone wall” by behr. We opted for the custom shades in white, and got the fireplace working again. (Much to Steve’s delight!)
